Simple Joy

May 10, 2011

Some days you just need a little flour, sugar, and chocolate! I get such a simple joy out of making cookies and especially eating the dough! hmmm and the smell is divine! Yum!

Recently I tried a new recipe. I think it might be a keeper! They made chewy and soft choco cookies!

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
Cooks Illustrated  from Ourbestbites.com

2 C plus 2 T flour
1/2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
12 T margarine
1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
1/2 C granulated sugar
1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
2 t vanilla extract
1 1/2 C semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate chips

Do the normal cookie things... cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Mix in dry ingredients. Bake at 350 until slightly golden and cracked, about 10-13 mins.

Enjoy a little baked love!

:: On another note I am gathering ideas for keeping a 1.5 year old entertained on a 7 hour airplane ride. Any suggestions?

We love treats! I will have to try that recipe, Kurtis loves chewy chocolate chip cookies!

Does S like movies? Do you have a portable DVD player/laptop? You might want to make sure you can entertain her with movies. What about the red eye flight? Coloring books, new toys from the dollar store and lots of snacks! Anything you can think of to keep her occupied!

I think you need a tupperware container for all your cookie creations :)

I'm still on the look-out for some more small-ish gadgets.

okay so maybe this is bad... but my sis had to benadryl her little boy on a cross country flight! i cannot judge because i dont know what its like with little ones, but i know for myself i usually need some herbal tea or ambien or something because flying is the worst!

I love soft cookies!

I'll have to think about ideas for your flight, but I'll tell you what NOT to do. Don't give your child peanuts for the first time ever up in the air to try to keep her quiet, above the ocean, hours from the airport cuz she might be allergic and you find out on the plane. Scary! :)

Valerie, that is scary about the peanuts.

Also, Kendra, I love how you put tape on the picture, so cute.

Does she like books? When we fly with Max we bring a wide variety of stuff(toys, cars, books, snacks and movies). When he gets restless we walk him up and down the aisles, he seems to like that. I'll try to think of more ideas.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I guess I will just pack a giant bag of stuff! :)
