silly & serious

March 13, 2010

While I was rocking Sophie to sleep the other night I was thinking of things I have learned so far during the adventure of being a mom. Here is the list of mostly silly and a few serious things I came up with...

1. There is no such thing as running to the grocery store real quick without the diaper bag. Just because you didn't bring it, you will need it.

2. Being able to do everything one handed is essential, including typing blog posts. (with many gramatical errors.)

3. Avoid the center of the 2nd and 3rd stair from the top. They squeak.

4. The rocking chair also squeaks if you lean to far to the right.

5. My husband is bound to dip the binky into pineapple sherbet, pasta sauce, yogurt, goldfish crackers, lasagna...pretty much everything. It doesn't matter how many times I get mad, he is going to do it anyways. {i will admit though that the faces she makes can be entertaining.}

6. Once in a while it is ok if all you do is watch food network, blog, and take care of your baby.

7. NEVER go outside {leaving the baby asleep inside} without your keys!! Yes, I went outside to look at my friends new car, pulled the door closed, and was totaly oblivious to the fact that it was locked. Sophie was inside and I was locked outside. Brian was not to thrilled he had to miss chemistry lab to come open the door for me.

8. Eveything takes twice as long with a baby. Sometimes its because random strangers stop you and want to see your baby and ask how old she is. Sometimes its because she need her diaper changed AGAIN right before your ready to leave. Sometimes its both!

9. You can never have too many diapers.

10. At 2am, when your baby starts crying, thinking "please go back to sleep please go back to sleep" probably won't help.

11. Any silly, frusrating, or embarassing moments are worth it when Sophie smiles or is peacefully sleeping in my arms!

Amazing how having a new baby makes you learn new things. Sometimes quicker than you want to. Once again, one of my favorite posts! The thing I think about binkies and Brian is when he put the handle side in his mouth and held her up for all to see at her blessing.
