Her Name

March 10, 2010

Sophie. The story behind the name Sophie is actually pretty comical. It all started several years ago when my mom {Lesa} was on a cruise playing bingo. To her surprise she won! The bingo caller had her come to the front of the room and asked what her name was and where she was from. She was embarrassed for some reason so she quickly made something up...

"Sophie from Philadelphia."

Everyone thought it was hilarious! Her nickname quickly became "Aunt Sophie."

I thought that this was pretty funny, and for some reason I started using the name too. {I guess I wanted to be just like my mom} Anytime I needed to put my name on a waiting list or make up a name for bowling ect.... I liked to use the name Sophie.

Brian took me bowling on our first date. As he was typing our names into the computer to keep score he said, "What do you want your name to be?" Of course trying to be funny {..it was a first date} I said Sophie. Brian laughed. I then proceeded to tell him the story about my mom and how in turn I used that name too!

When the time came to pick a name for our baby "Sophie" was immediately in the top 3. I thought it was a cute name and it just seemed so perfect that it was part of our first date 2 years earlier.

Laree.
I wanted our little girl's middle name to be Laree. {I didn't really give Brian a choice.} In honor of her Great-Grandma, Laree Cottle, one of my favorite people.  I want my baby girl to grow up and be like Grandma Cottle.

John. What can I say... didn't have much influence over that except that I agreed to it on December 29th 2007.

Are you or your kids named after someone special?

I wish I had a fun story for Samantha and Bailey or at least some family history. Truth is once we agreed on a name we pretty much ran with it! I think we are going to have that same situation with baby number 3, so far she is just baby and it is making me crazy!

THAT'S HILARIOUS! WAY TO GO SOPHIE- THAT WILL BE A FUN STORY FOREVER. WE JUST LOVED OUR GIRLS NAMES AND THAT'S ABOUT IT-ALTHOUGH

ABIGALE'S NAME MEANS: FATHER'S JOY AND AFTER TRYING SO HARD TO GET HER WE FELT THAT FIT.

PRESLIE'S NAME MEANS: SON OR DAUGHTER OF JOHN, FUNNY HUH? WE FOUND THAT OUT LATER. GUESS IT WAS MEANT TO BE.

Cute story. Can I still call her Aunt Sophie? Max is just because we loved the name and his middle name is Hudson which is after Brian's little boy that he lost. I'm so excited to tell him about Hudson when he gets older. I love that his name has meaning. We are working on that for baby #2!
